waverley.
waverley. fuse Americana tinged indie with moments of intensity to create a sound that is uniquely theirs. Folk-rooted songwriting and dynamic shifts makes the band's music both expansive and intimate, winning them plaudits from the likes of BBC Radio 6 Music, The Herald, and The Skinny.
A group of childhood friends from Edinburgh, collaboration is central to the
band’s ethos with each member playing an integral role in their communal
writing and self-recording sessions.
Their debut EP ‘It Makes An Emptiness Of A Crowded Place’, released in 2023 by Blackhall Records, includes the fiddle inspired guitar riffs of ‘Rest And Be Thankful’, and the euphoric crescendos of ‘Lowry Scene’, with comparisons being made to Wilco and Frightened Rabbit.
Never ones to sit still, waverley. are back with their new EP ‘Flail’. An eclectic and diverse collection of songs: ‘How It Starts’ sets the EP hurtling with ‘The Corner’ bridging the gap between folk and alternative before the EP climaxes with ‘Nettle’, which is wrapped in a beautiful string arrangement by Pete Harvey (Emma Pollock, King Creosote, Snow Patrol). ‘Flail’ further showcases the ambition that people have come to know of waverley.
A sold out Celtic Connections show at The Glad Cafe in January and BBC
Introducing show at Sneaky Petes in February was just the beginning of the
band’s busiest and most exciting year to date.
